Need 3" 1 1/4 oz #3 12 ga shot shells. Older blue box worked well but left residue; 30$ more for Ultra shok per case. Are they worth it? Any reviews on newer Speed shok?

Picked up a case of red bx ultra shok,s from Rogers last fall on sale and like them a lot. 3" x 1 1/4 oz. 2,s. I,ve shot Blk. Cld for years in same weight but these seem to work just as well thru same choking. Haven,t made it to pattern board yet to see whats really going on but overall quality product.

So I just asked around on this because my gun has long been patterned with the old, original blue box Speed-Shok. When I discovered they were being discontinued for a redesigned speed-shok, I had to call around before I ordered cases without re-patterning. The various website descriptions weren't very specific so I got it straight from Federal's mouth that there was no change to the wadding (only primer) but there was a 50fps increase in speed. Although patterning again is recommended, I felt safe ordering them (should be close).

I ordered some new speed shok at Thanksgiving and used it for late season here. I didn't have a great late season, but the shells performed well and killed birds when I did my part. I also used some during snow goose season. In both cases I didn't get enough shooting to honestly assess if they shot cleaner than the old speed shok. There wasn't any obvious and gross accumulation of powder residue like could be seen with the old shells, so they felt more "normal" when compared to other shells in the little shooting I had. I haven't patterned them yet.

Just received a new case of Federal new blue box 1450 fps 3" 1 1/4 oz #3 shot. Will have to pattern, but from looking at them they look good- the crimp is tight and appears well sealed, hulls are smooth and uniform. The older type definitely left significant residue but did not really affect performance- I cleaned the barrel a bit more- the new box says "cleaner", we shall see.

I have shot the redbox from before it was discontinued and Roger's picked it up. It's all I shoot at ducks. Never had a squib load even with wet shells and very clean burning.

Went thru a flat of the red box. Ordered another flat a few weeks back. Much pleased.
