Just happened to be in Florida shooting Madfin and Bass, but thought we would go over to Titusville, Florida and do an impromptu story on the nighttime launch of the Space Shuttle.

The shuttle launched at 2:38 a.m. and we didn't get back to out hotel until 6:00 a.m. Took and hour and a half to drive the 7 miles to the interstate.

Once the launch began it only took a few seconds to dissappear into the clouds....which was kind of a bummer because there wasn't a very long smoke plume to shoot.

Anyway....it was great to witness, and there were literally people there from all over the world. Met people from Italy, Columbia, Spain, and even one family from Iowa. :l

Shot the shuttle with two cameras, one wide on a tripod and remote shutter release, the other a longer lens handheld on a monopod.

This was our viewing point, ten miles from the launch pad across the Indian River:

    Very nice.

What's the gas mileage on that thing? I wonder if it comes in a Hybred model?

MAN that would be something to witness at night. Were they taken with a f2.8 or 4?
