I just got this email:
Quick update, I called the bio and he said the reason for the increase was the cacklers on the YK Delta going above the 250,000 bird managment goal. They were estimated to be at 270,000 so they were able to raise limits to 6 birds a day.
Very interesting. I was told by a very reliable source that the Cackler population even with the new counts was still under 250k.
Has anyone actually been able to find the goose population data this year? It is usually posted somewhere, but I have not seen it.
Lots of interesting stuff going on with goose management on the West Coast the last couple years.
I had heard the same thing, but I guess they kept the population count that said it was higher.
We'll see if they drop the limit next season...
