Flash!!!!! All those house of worship tithes and offerings (not to mention compassionate charity) wouldn't happen without the motivation for tax deductions.

Don't forget the Johnson Amendment. Something about the church can't preach politics from the pulpit. Our former mayor Annise Parker (I like that former moniker) subpoenaed several Houston pastors for their sermons to try to get their tax exempt status revoked. Didn't go so well.

    Op Cit.

Subpoenas issued to five Houston pastors demanding all sermons and correspondence dealing with homosexuality, gender identity and the city's Equal Rights ordinance have been withdrawn, the city’s first openly lesbian mayor announced at a Wednesday press conference.

    Good Ol' LBJ.

    Op. cit.

The Johnson Amendment is a provision in the U.S. tax code, since 1954, that prohibits all 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations from endorsing or opposing political candidates. Section 501(c)(3) organizations are the most common type of nonprofit organization in the United States, ranging from charitable foundations to universities and churches. The amendment is named for then-Senator Lyndon B. Johnson of Texas, who introduced it in a preliminary draft of the law in July 1954.

If you donated, then thank you very much for doing that. If thoughts of "nice tax deductions" gleefully danced in your head while writing the check, that's fine too. Like I said in an earlier post, typical cynic behavior, if you can't attack the action, attack the motive. When you take a break from looking over your financial statement, you could look up the definition of altruistic.

Altruism doesn't appear to be in some dictionaries.......it seems to have been replaced by snarky skepticism......

He has broadcasted himself as such an azz clown that it's hard not to be cynical of everything he does. He has nobody but himself to blame for this.
