Marbled Godwit in driftwood I finished this week. It’s the first one I have done. Carved from Cedar, oak dowel for the post, Lake of the Woods drift wood for the base, painted in acrylics.

Very cool. I like shorebirds. I should try some oneday.

Sweet! Sometimes I wish we had some kind of a season on shorebirds again, just for a bit of nostalgia.

I currently only have two other birds on the bench.

The first is a Cackling Goose that is being done as a demonstration bird. I am an instructor of a kids carving group. Each year they do a different bird, this year the committee chose a Canada Goose. So the other instructor and I decided to do Cackling Geese since we fund the materials mostly out of our own pockets and they take up much less materials than a full size bird would. We have 17 kids this year. Carving has all been completed and Painting starts this week. I will share their progress.

The other is a Mallard. I am having a hard time getting motivated to paint is as they are not on my list of favorite birds. I don’t do many puddle ducks anymore. Old school tucked head sleeper in this one. Have gotten a few strange looks when I show it to people.

Got the first coat of spar on this one last evening. Going to try a few without bottom boards for a lighter weight walk in rig.
