My first AZ hunt of any kind was pretty fun. I don't think that I was in the best of spots, but I still managed to scrape out a limit. I had to leave no later than 8am and I was barely able to get my 10th bird by that time. As I drove out, I saw some areas that would have been better....note to self for next time I guess.

I had a partial box of 17 shells and that got me my first 9 birds, but then when I switched over to the new box it took me 10 shots to drop another one. I never knew that a dove could take a hit hard enough to leave a cloud of feathers and still keep going.
Needless to say, I now know which shells I'll be taking with me on Saturday.

    Heres how my opener went.

I was really looking forward to my first ever dove hunt.

    - Put in a request to leave work two hours early. CHECK
-Scout the few areas I am familiar with in Arizona. CHECK
-Work off the rust with a few rounds of skeet. CHECK
    - Buy shell and a light weight camo shirt. CHECK
-Load everything into the truck. CHECK

-Get scheduled for a job interview at 06:30 am, Sept 1st. NO CHECK

Oh well, I'll go out tomorrow. And hope I get the job, otherwise it wasn't worth it.

    Kurt,

Yes, it is with the same company. Trying to step up to a Production Supervisor. Only problem it is on second shift. My least favorite shift.

    azfunn,
I think you have the same problem as Boone
    ;)

    SkyWatcher,
Got your pm. Yep thats the reason you where there till 8.

Even though I had lots of fun with Dr.Quack and Kurt. It still didn't quite feel right. This was the first time in 27 years that I wasn't in Yuma hunting with my Grandpa. I know how you feel Lefty.

I did have fun getting a call from socalducks and telling him about the hunt. I think I'll call him tomorrow morning and let him hear me drop a few.

Hey AzSprig and WW. Maybe I should give you guys a call too.:D :dv

Oh yea for all you purists. I was using a H&K single shot 20.

Not only black powder--but, we had to make our own powder and shot. Have you ever rolled lead into little bitty balls thousands of time. Wow, it was tough.

Quack, glad Shea had a good day. Jax is still in Doggie Boot Camp up at Brents. :(

I dont think they had black powder in the 60's. Weren't they throwing rocks ?

Our morning started out real slow ! Like 3 birds between two of us at 8 and only one other escaped with his life.

We headed down the road a ways and ended up working our butts off for the birds, but they came in.

Sounds like everyone had a good day except for WW and Sprig !
    Sorry guys.

Heck, Ole WW and Sprig talk a good game. In all reality though, I don't think they actually get out in the field much anymore. They just sit around and reminisce about the good old days...
