Took me 17 years of waterfowl hunting to bag my first drake pintail today. Had a nice one yesterday present me with a shot but I got all excited imagining him on my wall and wiffed all three times!

If you been waterfowl hunting 17 yrs. and missed 3 times don't feel bad about it as it going to happen again sometime.

I've just never had any luck getting them boogers to work me. Most of the ones I see are always a mile high and heading south! Before the one yesterday I can't think of a time when I've even shot at another one.

I missed a nice drake yesterday three times.
It's strange that there are some still around.

It took me 30 years to get one for the wall.

My hunting buddy got his first bull sprig last weekend in 35 seasons, so around 30 seems to be the norm here in Il? Got my first in 11 seasons and have gotten a few more since, but it's not very often. Congrats on your first!

Amazing how much empty space there is around a flying duck or goose. In order that I don't get prosecuted, I stole that quote...just can't remember who I stole it from, your Honor.

Thank you very much. I was pretty pumped. My buddy that was with me is in his first year of duck hunting and shot a drake pintail Wednesday as well. Pretty good day for us.

I remember in the mid to late 80's when I was getting started in the game, pintails were very rare in the area but I shot several blacks every season. Now the blacks are the rare ones for me but it seems I get several bull sprigs every season now. I don't think I've shot a black in 20-25 seasons now. Maybe I was just lucky those first few years. Definitely seeing a lot more sprigs the last few seasons around these parts.
