My wife and I have started the same discussions and VA is on the list. I'd love to move to MD but not sure it is the best place for my retirement dollars.

when we retire, taxes will likely make us relocate to a more freindly area.

I like the Northern Neck\ middle peninsula of Va. Taxes are not bad(as s.e. Va) and you are right in the middle of Every thing as far as hunting and fishing. Nice people up that way, wont find better neighbors!

Lots of life long residents of Maryland migrating to delaware for retirement to stay close to family.

There is no suggestion here that is anything close to retiring out west like you want. I'd negotiate with that MRs. more if that's what you want. Maybe downsize buying here and still afford a mobile home out west that you split time in.

The hunting on the Atlantic flyway will only keep getting worse and more restrictive. It's a poor place to plan a future in waterfowl hunting. Maybe with major coin but not on a retirement budget.

I hear Montana has some ok waterfowl hunting... I know if they had a ocean near them I would move tomorrow... Hands down the best and most beautful state I have ever stepped foot in.

This not a bad idea at all. Probably out of my price range though.

    Don't consider Cape Charles, either.
