The feds are contemplating changing the season (duck) framework for the 2020-2021 season and beyond. Basically, extending the close into February and possibly coinciding with the dark goose season close. Probably would entail a later opening day to offset the total days allotted by flyway. Wonder if we have any US Senators from The Natural State to thank given the potential loss of OOSer revenues under the current framework that’s not compatible with the changing migration patterns? FWIW.

AR will secede before duck season is closed on Thanksgiving weekend.

To avoid that distinct possibility they’d probably do a split after then.

They would have to renegotiate a treaty with Canada and Mexico, would they not?

IIRC, the overall season framework is September 1st through March 10th.

Sorry, am unable to locate it quickly, but I thought I remembered that seasons for migratory birds were prohibited from opening prior to September 1 or going beyond January 31. The Migratory Bird Treaty Act was originally with Great Britain (because they owned Canada), and then Mexico, Russia and Japan were added. The provisions of the MBTA prohibit any State from setting seasons outside of the Federal dates (before or after), but am still researching.

The framework models under AHM are actually the Saturday nearest September 24th to the last Sunday in January for the MS Flyway. We are allowed exceptions for early teal and for "resident", nonmigratory Canada geese.
