Great post ! This is how I remember this forum . Good stuff
Dang, this is some good stuff!
Yes thanks all for sharing.
Very nice gesture Ryan to get that call to Dan.
A guy named Brian from the Colusa County Sun-Herald contacted me last week.
He is writing a story about Cecil's life as a call maker in CA.
He found one of my old posts over on duck hunting chat and asked if he could use it.
I sent him links to both of these threads.....maybe he will join the refuge and chime in.
So be looking for the story to be coming out.......soon.
I asked him to send me a few copies of the paper............if he does I'll send you one if you'd like it.
That is a sweet call you got Bart.
I have two now but not as old as the call you have.
Randy, I still use the call you made up for me.
There was a story in this mornings local paper ( Marysville Appeal-Democrat ) about Cecil and Glenn written by Brian Pearson. Haven't looked for it online but it's on the front page of the Jan. 25 edition. Pretty good article.
Told you it would be soon.
When he said soon I didn't think he meant in two days.
Here's what I found......I don't see any part of the story I told.
And it's a different paper..........maybe he is writing another story.
Awesome call !!!
The California rice commission Face Book page has a video of Glen Wellborn turning a call. It is pretty cool, maybe someone here can figure out how to post it on this thread.
I grew up in Colusa and had the pleasure of bumping into Cecil from time to time. He was always very helpful and generous with his time and expertise. Glen is turning some exceptional calls in the same tradition, but with his own style. This particular call was custom-turned for my dad; he was a very large man and this is a huge call. Man, he used to make this thing howl. I can blow it, but I can't do it justice!
Would really enjoy seeing that .
