Small HP Gear Reduction Motors?

    I was looking at my new Nothern Tool cat. I got in the mail the other day and I saw where Honda was making an 11hp motor with a 6:1 gear reduction and some others had 3:1, etc.

    Think the application is for cemet mixers and such.

    Seems like you could make that little sucker turn a big prop. Don't know how much they weigh but seems like that little 11hp would make a cool little power plant.

    I believe it has already been done before. I think the first motors to bear the "hyper drive" name were longtails using these motors. Glenn could probably elaborate on that though.

    I heard a whole lot of talk/press about those. Far as I know they never made it to production?

    A 6.5 with 3:1 Reduction on a small marsh boat would be the stuff.

    Yes, the 6 and 12 Kohler are 2:1 reductions and the gear reduction allows them to turn large, more efficient props. They, like you can imagine, are the quickest in their class.

    Tried the 6:1 and it did not work, even with a 35 horse blade.
