I've just gotten to the point where I don't waste my time "helping" ANYONE unless they ask. I rarely offer my opinion and, indeed, I stayed off these boards for a long time.

Over the years I've noticed there are two types of newbies:
    1. The ones who know it all and want shortcuts (avoid 'em like the plague)
    2. The ones that approach it with an open mind and actually learn something (these usually stick around)

Am I jaded? Yeah.....but over the past 30 years, I've seen people come and go in this hobby with frightening regularity. It doesn't benefit me to waste my time on someone who already knows it all :scratch

The worst are the guys who see us running tough blinds in the local park, and approach you wanting to get THEIR dogs to that level. I usually try to nicely suggest they come out to a fun day and maybe join my local retriever club (HRC).

When they find out they might have to actually do some work (training) and maybe get off their azz....it's usually, "Oh, I didn't want a robot trial dog, I want a hunting dog" which just screams to me..."I'm too lazy to train"....
