Anyone seeing any specks in the valley yet? They always seem to know when the rice harvest is started and start to funnel into the valley almost as soon as the harvesters fire up. To me the arrival of the first flocks signal the beginning of fall and let me know the season is not far away.

I havent been in the north valley, but dove opener in banos I saw flights of sprig in the am and also saw sprig in the salt ponds off san mateo bridge the other day. We gett a god push of early sprig and specks, so i'm sure both are in the north valley by now

Yes. Alan Thomas and his neighbors flooded September 1st, and the Specks have been dropping in since then.

Tule geese are the early arrivals. The specs should start late next week and once they start it is like someone flipped a light switch.

We started water next to sutter a week ago and a group of specks were in one of the fields this morning. Very few ducks have found it so far, which is surprising.
