TAG: Don’t fix what isn’t broken

Major changes are being proposed for the STA permitting and walkin system. From one permit/ per person/ per season to pooling walkin line people so that 3 hunters have the same chance as one. There are many other proposals, too many to list or explain here. This is being done through the Waterfowl Quota Permitting Technical Assistance Group (WPTAG)

    What you can do:
    1. Join United Waterfowlers of Florida and read all about the proposals and process on the members forum $25/year. (this is not a recruiting attempt)

    2. Attend a TAG meeting. The last public meeting will be February 18 location yet to be determined in south florida and will be posted on the United Waterfowlers of Florida Public Forum or call Jaime Fedderson.

    3. Send an email and make a phone call.

Subject line for emails: “TAG STA: Don’t fix what isn’t broken”

The message here is, if you are basically happy with the current STA permitting and walkin line system then you need to be very loud and POLITE about that fact. The changes coming could likely greatly reduce local access to the STAs as you currently know it.

Send emails to: WPTAG STA representatives:
    Robertcsantos00@gmail.com
    FFJM@aol.com

Jaime Fedderson (waterfowl and small game program leader)
    Ducks@myfwc.com
    850-488-5878

If you know anyone else who likes the STA system currently they also have to contact the state. The state only hears from unhappy people. The happy silent majority needs to call now!

We need hundreds of people to do this your email is really important. It cannot be stressed enough that you must be polite and must contact these people.

This is not a Uwf endorsed position. The UWF has no official position on the TAG direction.

    Sir,

No one is attempting to limit access to any of the waterfowl properties.

The WPTAG is attempting to standardize the process so that waterfowl permits fall in line with the rest of the RLIS system.

Right now, waterfowl permits statewide take up 40% of the RLIS system & we are the smallest user group. Each permitted area has its own set of RLIS rules & regs, making it hard not only on the RLIS folks but the hunters attempting to gain permits.

We are actually attempting streamline it to increase it by (2000) two thousand unused/duplicate permits.

When we are done, one of our major goals is to cut down on the duplication (hunters getting same date @ different locations) & reduce the 40% NO SHOW rate at all the locations.

    Are changes coming, YES!!!

    Will everyone like them, NO!!!

Are we trying to make it "Fair & Equatable" for everybody, YES!!!

Since I already know you have spoken with JF at length on this issue, I know you understand the process that we are going through.

I would suggest obtaining a copy of JF's Powerpoint presentation from the Daytona mtg & see the disparaging numbers of permits that are going unused.

Sadly, in total only (1) one person from the public came to the Daytona mtg & (6) six to the Melbourne Beach mtg. Hopefully more will attend the WPB mtg once the location is finalized.

One final thought, the only group that is being limited is the hunters @ TMG. Currently, they can receive (18) eighteen permits per season. This number will likely decrease to (3) three or even (1) one.

ALL TAG information can be found here towards the bottom of the page:

    http://myfwc.com/hunting/by-species/waterfowl/

    Stakeholder input needed:

TAG members to go back to duck hunters to discuss various plans. Also determine their preferences. What is more important, securing at least 1 permit per year or would they like the option to hunt every venue in the state at least once? TAG members are to provide feedback to Jamie at earliest convenience.

For anyone reading this post please note that this is NOT and endorsed UWF stand and that this person’s views DO NOT express the same or any views as the United Waterfowler’s of Florida.
Although a member, this person went on their own and in a neglectful manner is using the UWF name to affix his views, not the organizations who has not took a stance on the matter.
This is a work in progress and we need to give the state and the council the time to work out the issues.
    Thank you.

    Nice speech this morning.

Next time try giving the official mtg meetings instead of promoting personal agendas!!!
