Has anyone ever left rice standing instead of having it combined and rolled? What is the advantages and disadvantages of either way?

Biggest advantage to a standing crop is that it provides more food. The only other advantage is cover. The disadvantage of standing rice is that if it doesn't lodge and lay down, it doesn't provide much open water for ducks to land in. If it does lodge and lay down, you lose the cover. The best way I've seen it done is drilled or broadcast at 1/2-3/4 the recommended rate with a shortest growing convential variety you can find to help prevent lodging. After emergence, disk or spray strips or openings for landing zones.
