I would definitely have to agree with Diz here. The 300 f/2.8 is an amazingly sharp telephoto lens. In my opinion, nothing I've shot with will beat it. Like Diz says, with a 2X TC you have a very nice 600mm set up. That would be my choice for sure.

    Trevor...

Before you give up on the 100-400 lens, try it with the 1.4X teleconverter. My 100-400 will autofocus with the 1.4X tele on both my 40D and my 7D..

    Won't hurt to try....

I'm not giving up on it, I like it a lot, just wanted to add a prime to the arsenal. I'm going to save up to get what I really want.

Do you have to tape the pins for it to focus on your 7D? My set-up (7D w/100-400) has never auto focused with the 1.4 teleconverter.

I have a friend selling his 400 if you are interested. PM me and I can give you his phone number. He has used it primarily to shoot sports events, like NFL games. Has a camo cover for it too. I've shot the lens on my 7D and it is excellent.

He is located in Fort Wayne ... so meeting up with him to look at it would be no problem for you guys.

Thanks for the offer but I decided to wait and save up.
