No gun ban here. We have access to just about anything you have as well. If you are an old fart like me, my federal firearms license has both a restricted weapons and prohibited weapons authorization. I can own fully automatic weapons. I can own handguns. I can own "black rifles". I don't even have a waiting period when I buy them either.

Culture? What was wrong with this guy's culture? White, upper middle class, no history of mental problems, no history of criminal activity, just an "average" kind of guy................who , for some currently unknown reason, snapped. So background checks and mental health checks etc would not have stopped him. He probably could have purchased the pre-86 machine guns if he had wanted to as well, with no apparent background problems.

So now we are down to the weapons. With the bump stocks, you are using a virtual full auto weapon. With some basic mechanical ability, you can certainly convert most semi-autos to full auto with a few parts ,either purchased or machined yourself. Do a search on line and you can find just about anything you want. Full auto kits are available on the dark web and you can purchase them with bitcoin and have them shipped anywhere in the world.

It is a lot easier to spend a few bucks and buy the bump stocks from a reputable dealer and away you go. In under 15 minutes of shooting, you can kill and wound upwards of 600 people, and that is with a moderate crowd. What happens at a huge stadium with 90,000 people? A political rally in Washington with 1,000,000 people?

For the life of me, I can't think of a good reason anyone needs a "bump stock", unless they really want to create some carnage.

As to the good guy with a gun, if the good guy takes an hour to find the bad guy, damage has been done. Every one at the concert could have been carrying a handgun, but there was next to zero chance of hitting the shooter, and a better chance of killing an innocent bystander in the hotel or in the crowd.

If it's true that explosives were found in his car, in his home in Mesquite and in his home in Reno - that waters down the gun control debate.

It proves he was hell bent on killing people. Period. Had he had no guns - no access to guns - guns being illegal - guns being banned - guns being confiscated - guns never existing - the mental nut job who was taking Diazepam - still could have carried out his sick twisted plot to kill and harm innocent human beings.

Do you believe that their isn't one Canadian who doesn't own a "bump stock"? Do you believe that their isn't one Canadian who couldn't machine his/her own "bump stock" if they so desired?

I couldn't read all of this. You lost me at what was wrong with "this guys" culture. Sorry. If we're only worried about "this guy" or "that guy", we're doomed to fail.

Our nations culture as a whole is a wreck. Not one guys. We are numb to violence. We glorify it. We emulate it in video games at 11 years old. We watch it on the news nightly, and don't bat an eyelash. We blame the car for killing the innocent passerby on the road, and deny that poor little Jeffie was at fault, because he's our little baby boy who only drinks and drives occasionally. People need to own up to their actions in this country. It can't always be someone or something else's fault. I can outline a plan that would have caused more damage at that event than this idiot caused, without ever firing a shot, without ever even making a loud noise.

So you mean to tell me anyone in Canada can walk up into a store and buy a full auto, and walk out with it? The fellas I spoke to from Canada in Alaska didn't seem to think that was the case.

The mental nut job had a pilots license. He could have easily filed up an airplane w/ said explosives and flown it from Mesquite over to Las Vegas and right down in to the Route 91 Harvest festival...

Its already been established that he had the means (being a pilot and large quantities of explosives), so why didn't he?

Thank-God he didn't drive a panel truck loaded with ANFO and detonate it.

The sick mother lover probably wet himself watching people try to run for their lives. Its been reported he often loudly belittled his girlfriend at the casino when she asked a simple question.

He was probably terminal and wanted to give his new boss in hell a resume enhancement.

    Hope he rots.

Its because of the psychology behind the killings. Typical terrorists goal is to kill as many people as possible, they use bombs. Set it, forget it, wait to see what happens, and inflict fear in the mass. The type of terrorism we saw in Las Vegas was targeted aggression, it stems from anger and resentment. They don't just want to kill as many people as possible, its much more personal than that. They want to look at their victims as they die. Firearms provide that level of intimacy.
