Wonder if the ongoing battle the SC folks have dealt with is winding down? No doubt there is a lot of background to the story not covered in the linked article regarding the father's original involvement in the child's life. Not sure exactly what enlightened the dad to suddenly have a vital interest in custody. Even with the court decisions in place, one wonders what the next chapter will be.

From what I heard yesterday on the local news here the girl was turned over to the SC family that adopted her. I say good luck in your endeavors.

This case is a total mess.

Bio dad intended to sign custody over to mom after being uninvolved to any degree. He claims it's due to her calling off marriage, cutting him out, etc. He also says he thought he was just signing over custody and was unaware of intended adoption. Beyond that he blames his military service etc.

Tribe got involved well after the fact and his interest in being Cherokee suddenly became of vital importance and suddenly the tribe cared about Veronica. Where they were when dad was AWOL (along with his multitude of supporters) has yet to be explained and won't be.

So, he has plenty of fault.

Adoptive family knew what they were doing and went through with the adoption anyway.

So, they have plenty of fault.

Baby was yanked from them at 2 and now yanked from him at 4.

Both selectively claim 'trauma' when referring to only one of those instances.

    Awful.

From the outside looking in, indeed this seems a convoluted mess. Does Dad and the tribe have a financial reason for their interest in Veronica or did Dad have an epiphany telling him he needed to be a good daddy and asked the tribe for help?

    ETA:
If that's not a miss print, then Veronica is slightly more than 1% Cherokee. Around here folks with less than 25% pure bloodline are being expelled from tribes and denied a share of casino revenue.

Yes, Brown's interest in being Cherokee seems to rest solely on its relation to this case.....but FYI in OK if you've got a card, you've got a card. Might look like Crazy Horse, might look like me (could have a card if my ancestors had kept the records up etc).

Buddy of mine is as blond and blue eyed as you can get.....got cheese and pencils in pharmacy school.:yes

Wonder if he would have had the same benefits had he chosen to attend school out of state?

I have yet to see a player who seems to have that as their first priority. Certainly not the tribe.

    It ain't over.

Well, to an extent they can. Tribal tags, tribal LE, tribal courts...

    Not sure, I think so.

...and related to the subject which (considering the potential for a good outcome) should rightly be focused upon benefiting a child:

    ????? :scratch

Heck, if that's all it takes, I need to get my wife certified as an Iroquois. She's something like 1/16th or 1/32nd from what I remember. Guess I'd better have her check that out!
