So I was thinking of putting in a dove patch this year, maybe 1/2 acre, any ideas of what I should plant and when?

I plant a mixture. I use buckwheat, sorghum, partridge pea, and sunflower. The buckwheat drops first and gets them coming in. If left the sorghum drops late. I would try to do an area larger than 1/2 acre. If bush hogging you don't need to do the whole area at once that way.
