Went with a buddy to train last night. He was prepping for an upcoming hunt test. Wanted to run some marks similar to the started test.

Let Mattie try one. She is bugging on the return. No marks for her until we're done with FF. Weird, the hold is going well, it appears the little pressure and stress of that has her hesitant to return to me. She went off to the taller grass with the bumper, here whistle, drops the bird and comes right over.

Not really a question, just an observation. Using this thread to help me document her progress versus a journal.

If I recall correctly, you have the SmartFetch DVD. Is that right?

    Hogleg,
I think a few dogs will do alright doing marks before ear pinch is done, but a lot will do exactly what your dog did.
For that reason, we never do marks until ear pinch is finished.

Yes sir. And I can picture in my head right now your explanation of why ceasing marks is probably a good idea. I just had to prove it to myself.:)

A few sessions into ear pinch. She is turning into the ear I am pinching. Does it matter if i switch ears during the process?

We're making progress but it gets difficult when she turns her head all the way to her left.

You have the other three fingers looped under the collar strap to control her upper torso. Use your tools. Switching ears will do more to hide from the problem than to deal with it. Remember this saying, and understand that it applies to many situations: What you permit, you promote.

Moving along with ear pinch. She is now reaching, continuing to move closer to the floor. Seems to have a good grasp. Boy does she miss running marks.

Very well. Holds during walking thru sit and heel. That was solid before I started ear pinch.
