I drew 2 otter tags for central zone also a fisher tag in zone f.

Anyone else draw any tags? Any big plans or goals you have for the season?

My plan is to target fisher after duck season closes, also likely some rats/mink if ice isn't crazy thick. Hoping to set cables in January to try for my first fox/yote then Feb/Mar target otter and beaver.

Do the mice I caught at the cabin count? Fisher and otter tag. I have a black coyote in my neighborhood I might go after also.

Good luck PB. Your thread last year reminds me of how much I enjoyed trapping growing up. Waterfowling pretty much consumes my life from September 1st through January but I do miss the feeling of pulling up on a set and wondering if or what I might have caught. Keep us updated. I've caught coon, red and gray fox, coyotes, mink and muskrats but an otter would be sweet.

First year that I didn't get either a fisher or otter tag. Thought for sure I would draw a bobcat tag. But drew a blank there also. But hey I have lots of points.

Plan on box trapping a few coons on our deer hunting land. Any word on fur prices this year?

I'll still be trying for my first trapped coyote while also keeping the coon population in check.
This spring the raccoons were tearing up Shirley's flowers on the deck. So I set a couple traps. A week and seven dead coons later they finally were leaving her flowers alone. None of them were kits.

I mentioned this to my neighbor and he said he just killed ten of them. Between the two of us we have around 170 acres, and they were all caught near our buildings. Neither of us farm, although he raises a few cattle every year, so it's not like we have bins of food out for them. It got me wondering, just how many coons are out there?

I just got this from the dnr website:
"Although there is no statewide population estimate, raccoon densities can approach one animal per 12-20 acres where food may be abundant and cover is plentiful. In good habitats, the average density of raccoons is probably one per 30-40 acres, with the highest densities in southern and central Wisconsin."

Granted we have a creek running through our property, but it sure seems like we got more than our share!

Got an otter tag this year, so I'll go for one after deer hunting. Also plan more sets this year for coyote Did pretty well on coyotes last year, but didn't put a dent in the population... Neighbors want me to set on their property this year, too.

Not sure where fur prices will be, but I'll trap anyway. Feels like I'm doing a little to help out the deer population by us.

No idea on projected fur prices. It wouldn't change what I will be doing anyway. A better question is does anyone know what tanning prices will be? Haha. It's going to be an expensive year trapping for me if I'm successful. I really want to get a fisher tanned with feet/claws on.

I know prices most likely will be low but it feels like I am wasting a animal when I only get a dollar or 2 for its fur. If time permits I am going to try for the 2 families of red fox living on our land that have been terrorizing the turkeys:dv
