The Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Wildlife Resources Division, in cooperation with Dalton Utilities, will be conducting two youth duck hunts on Dalton Utilities? land application facility in Murray County. The hunts will be Dec. 16-17 and January 6-7.

Hunters ages 12 to 16 years are eligible. All hunters will be randomly drawn for hunting areas. Guides and dogs will be provided by Ducks Unlimited as needed. All applications must be received at DNR offices by 10 a.m. on Dec. 9 to be included in the drawing. No faxes will be accepted. Only one application per hunter will be accepted. Hunters that send more than one application will be disqualified.

Application packages must include a postcard with the following information for both the hunter and the supervising adult who will accompany him or her: names, addresses, daytime and nighttime phone numbers, birth dates, and the date of preferred hunt or indicate that either is fine. The application package should also include an essay by the youth hunter of 100 words or less containing past hunting experience, why he or she wants to be invited to the duck hunt, and any other information that he or she wants to include. The application package (containing postcard and essay) should be mailed to Georgia DNR, Attn: Cpl. Nathaniel Jones, One Memory Lane, P.O. Box 786, Calhoun, GA 30703-0786.

All hunters selected for the hunt must report to the check-in station at 3 p.m. on Dec. 16 or Jan. 6 for mandatory orientation, safety briefing and assignment of hunting area. Failure to report on either of these days will result in disqualification from the hunt. Legal weapons for the hunt are shotguns with non-toxic shot.
