I have also though about rivets as well.
Why not just beat the crap out of the $150 canoe you have and when it's in too bad a shape, scrap it for $50 and buy another one.
I thought about that. BUT if I can help prevent it finally taking a dump on me 3 miles from the launch I would like to mitigate that. So if I can find a way to help protect the bottom on the cheap then it’s worth it to me.
wrap it in fiberglass... then just repair the fiberglass as needed
This. I'd bolt it about every 6-8" and seal each one with 5200. If that doesn't seal it there's nothing out there that will. I think the UHMW is the best solution and should work quite well.
