For any of you making foam herters 63 or 72 style decoys, what are you using as a keel weight to mold in?

The old Herters from the 70's used a piece of 5/8 square steel about 7 inches long . That is what I am using in mine.

Thanks for the info, just to clarify, are you talking 5/8x5/8x7 solid square or 5/8x?x7 barstock?

    Anyone else?

The Herters decoys from the 80's used a piece of 1/4 x 1-1/2 flat steel bar about 7 inches long and the bar is exposed. The decoys with the solid square bar is totally enclosed in foam. see pictures. Herters bottom.jpg Herters bottom 2.jpg

I bet a piece of rebar would be a lot cheaper. Good grip on the foam as well.

I checked the keel weight on an original Herters 72 Diver and it is 6-3/4 long
