Whether it's fights and arguments over calls during games or arguments with playing time with the coach or nazi coaches demanding practice 7 days a week we place WAY too much priority on organized youth activities as a society. What ever happened to kids playing for fun? My kids played for a little while until the demands of the team took priority over family activities. I don't support organized youth sports leagues.

I certainly don't buy into that aspect of modern America.

Both my kids and all my grandkids played organized sports (including rec league, club teams, and high school). The rec leagues are (IMOE) somewhat more laid back, but the club teams and high school sports are a family wide commitment. Those 400 hundred mile road trips for weekend tournaments take a big bite out of time and wallet. Even high school road games are outta town runs. As long as the kids want to do it and are having fun it's okay, but if ya have to drag the kids to games and practices, it's time to stop.

Heaven forbid you decide a day in the duck blind is more important than practice or a game. And folks wonder why hunter recruitment is a problem.

I was always amazed at the parents priorities when school was cancelled for weather.

Never ever did we hear “oh my, we’ve been out for a week, how are we going to make up our math/science/English/ ACT prep”.

Yet every single time we had to worry about making up that game between us a podunk high school down the road, because certainly failing to make up that all important game was more
Important than grades for safety on the road.
