A couple of years ago I made a shot on a song dog that was approx 1100 yds. The range finder would only go to 800 yds, so we went to that point then ranged again to the dog. Honestly the shot was pure luck. It was rolling terrain and he was on the third hillside when I hit him. The gun was a Rem. 700 BDL in 22-250 Ackley with a handloaded 55gr V-max with a 8-32 Bushnell Elite.

Back in my grounhog hunting days (high school) my longest was ~300 yards with a 22-250. That was only because I was hunting the fields from the hayloft that day. It was much more usual to get closer and take them with my .243 from 100-200 yards. Even better was to take them with my recurve. Long shots are fun but stalking is even more fun IMHO.

20 yards at a coyote. Came in as a HUGE tom was gobbling his head of and coming to our calls:mad: That was the first time I had seen a live coyote and I'm still waiting on another one.

Longest shots I have attempted on chucks was a little over 400 (ranged first off course) with my model 700 in 250 savage shooting 87gr TNTs over 4064..I think it was 36.5 grs. About 3000fps MV. 4x12 Leupold. There were two chucks out. Got both on 3 shots out of that hole, a pair of young ones. I knew the setting for 300 and figured about 20 clicks further. Missed on first shot, then 402 yards hit on the second, then about a minute later a 408 yard hit on the third shot.

My dad had shot their mommy earlier that week with his .22-250 at 396 yards. I couldn't let that stand. :l

It is tough to get long, safe shots where I hunt, that is the furthest I have attempted.

Just back from a shoot in SD--4 of us shot about 3200 rnds in two days--lots of dogs--not much wind(hard to believe in SD) and sunny--we were very good at ranges of 200-300yds and took a few @ 450 or so--I shoot 22-250 and others had 223's 204's etc--we shoot from benches -off hand at any pd's under 100,600 is beyond us -those leetle guys ain't very big--use it for fall tune up--been doing this for 7-8 yrs now.
