Thank you that was very informative I was wondering how the coloring came into play with different geese.

I killed a Ross' a few years back that had a white collar with white lettering. It came from Johnsons point in the NWT. And last fall my brother killed a small canada banded there too! How's that for coincidence?

I also killed a Ross' Goose banded in Johnson Point, NWT. I recovered it in California. A fellow in Oaklahoma took one the same year a few numbers off from mine. Banded the same day, same biologist, same place. Both geese left from the same place, one went to California the other to Oaklahoma. I saw his recovery in the "Passages" article in Wildfowl magazine and wrote in to the author of the story with my information.

Multiple people may be doing the banding under one persons name. For example, all of the wood ducks banded statewide in Illinois are listed as being banded by the states waterfowl biologist.

Very True, but in the case of arctic geese, all geese within each region are banded within about a 7-10 day span by the same crew of guys. The Master permit holder is usualy there, but in the case mentioned above actualy wasn't.

We got a white-collared Canada last fall that also was banded in the NWT.

My buddy Jon with his first banded Goose, a collared Canada.
