I've heard uraducks are heavy. If I had some foam, balsa wood, or tupelo, I'd carve us a half dozen or so... but unfortunately I don't

Do you know anyone who is still making quality custom foamers? I've been looking for someone who can make a Mintz quality decoy.

I suggest you buy a sample and do a search of Ure-a-duk.

I think you're chasing a unicorn: Light, custom, non plastic, self righting and durable. Pick three.

foam has kinda gone away, not really sure why, as a carver i tried making them, but in the time it took to get layers of mastic to the consistency or finish i liked it took several layers and days of drying time to get what i wanted out of them. tough to spend days on a single foam bird when i can carve a complete bird in 3 hours out of cork and paint it the next day!! or a wood bird in 5 hours. just my 2 cents, a lot of guys where doing foam in my circle of carvers which is extremely large nobody is making them now.

Ah this is one hell of a challenge. But shoot me an address I may have the answer. I doubt they will self right But I got the solution for a flat bottom lightweight foam decoy. I just happen to have some bodies that dont have any weights in them that you could easily cut the keep off of and try.

You may be surprised as how much movement our weighted keels do in a light wind on calm water. they actually move like crazy. But I understand the need for less weight.

Lots of foam carvers still out there but they all post on FaceBook. Look up Foam Decoys page or Making Foam Decoys page.
