We don't get many woodcock through here but I manage to find a few each year. Hardly ever shoot any though. That sure is a pretty gun you have there. What is it? Maybe if the hunting gods smile on me all summer I will finally make it up your way to try for some grouse and woodcock. Good hunting.

    Rutgers...

Thanks for the comment on my dog. He hunts really close in tight coverts making him a good little cocker. This time of year is for nothing but day dreaming about seasons past and those to come.

    wingsnpaws...

The gun I was using that day was made in 1972. It's a Beretta SO 5 EELL sidelock. You will probably see fewer woodcock each year I'm afraid. They are still in decline. We may see closed or shorted seasons in the near future. I hope not, but I would not be shocked.

Beautiful dog. I can't wait until the fall. I just saw a woodcock walking across a road the other day. I had to stop the truck so I wouldn't run it over.

best since the early 90s..... closed or shortened season... oh no....... Maybe with a republican in charge again we'll see some better forest management? I saw more birds last year than any time since the early 80s.

my dog had 81 points on woodcock last year. oh and I like the gun too..... i shoot a jp sauer and sohn 16 made long before me.
