Let's see them!
Had some land in our Goose/teal spread yesterday. Too bad we can't shoot them here in Maryland during early teal!
I witnessed some dying.
I live up north of ya in Pennsylavnia. You guys get our woodies later in the year. Be prepare for a bad year. Worse year I've ever seen for hatches in the 50+ years of hunting them. I'm going to do my best to short stop as many as I can with some #4's.
5 of us killed 10 on the opener but numbers were lower this year than I've ever seen in our hole. Not sure why, plenty of water. Never saw a teal.
Some will die here Saturday. Any of you Kentucky boys want to come out here and get an early hunt in at the Cheyenne bottoms I'll be available this year. Our season starts Saturday.
Worst thing to happen was Woody season stopped being experimental and became permanent.
The KDFWR cut way back on woody boxes after that. I would guess they also cut back on banding woodies to some extent? It seemed that one out of five had jewelry back years ago around the big lakes
Fowler...you are indeed correct concerning wood duck boxes, production has ceased many years ago. Banding not so much. If you referring to Kentucky and Barkley, still trapping in the area just periodically changing locations. State wide in comparison on a national level, KY is on top of keeping tabs on their wood ducks through banding efforts
I remember swarms of woodies 20 years ago. Same spot on the lakes and you get a trickle.
I believe the boxes helped, as did Frank Belrose.
know boxes help I put out 6 every year
