Well the ice fishing season is here at full swing and I've done pretty well with the gills and crappies. My brothers have caught some nice walleyes. In fact, my bro Chad caught a nice 28" through the ice two weeks ago on a Buckshot spoon.
Mother Nature has been a cold hearted winch, but to put a positive spin on things....it's making ice. Most area lakes have 9'"to 10" of ice on them, but also 6" of slush on top... I like the 9" of ice but the slush I could do without. It's just going to make it just that much more difficult to make ice with snow on top of the ice.

I just picked up a Vexilar this fall and it works fantastic. I probably wouldn't have caught half the fish without this unit. It's an amazing flasher and I would recommend it to anyone ice fishing. You can adjust your jigging presentation to the reaction of the fish on the flasher...Plus the real time data that's evident on it allows you to get ready for the fish to bite.

I'm going out tomorrow for some more panfish. It's only suppose to be a HIGH of 5?-10?F tomorrow so it looks like the long underwear and wool socks are busting out. I'll try to post a fishing report on how I did this past weekend. I won't be the slacker like I have been.he,he,he. Oh yeah the musky total for me this year were 6 fish with the smallest being 34" and largest 40". Not great ... but not bad considering me being a weekend warrior.he,he,he. I'll try to post some pics on this site some time. Take care guys and have a great Holiday Season.

    catch ya later,
    Krappie

We just found a spot for walleye now. The lake we fish is known for small walleye and we have been catching some pretty descent fish. In our old spot we caught a 23 inch walleye and a 24.5 inch walleye.
We moved the fish house the other day. The first night we only caught one little walleye about 10 inches long. 3 of us went up last night and got 14 walleye all about 14-16" and 1 ling. Going back up tonight to try our luck again.

Hey ndhonkerhunter, good to hear that you guys are doing pretty good on the eyes!!! I went out fishing today on an area lake and did pretty well(good considering how everyone else was doing around us anyway) on Bluegills. We caught about 40 gills, but only keeping about 20 for a meal. The Vexilar is no doubt the tool to use during ice fishing. I don't know how I lived without it.

We have some decent lakes in Wisconsin for walleyes, but it is often tough to find some keeper size fish. Hopefully the new slot limit that the DNR is implemented will help.

I wish you luck on the walleye fishing and let us know how you did.

    catch ya later,
    Krappie

Good to hear that your getting the panfish. The only panfish we catch is an occasional perch or school of perch that comes by, but they are always nice sized perch.
The lake that we fish is hard to find keeper sized eyes on too, but we found them. Hopefully we can keep catching them before the bite dies off.
We already have 20" or more of ice on most lakes. That is twice as much as we had at this time last year. We had just put our house on about 2 days ago last year.
Well, hope you keep catching them.

Nice to meet another bluegiller. I spend the vast majority of my ice time fishing for gills. Cant wait for my Vexilar to arive so I can see what I've been missing. Then all we need is a break from this weather.

-18 when I left Green Bay on Christmas. That's too cold for me. Krappie's holding out on you guys since he lives literally blocks from a trophy walleye fishery. Three winters ago someone that was fishing with me pulled up a 16 1/2 # walleye through the ice there. Trophy muskies in the same spot.
