The fact that the oil has dispersed...caused probably by the massive amounts of dispersant sprayed into the stream coming out of the broken well...and no great environmental disaster has occured is driving the doomsayers nuts....

The fact that all the oil leaked, as bad a disaster as it was, actually totaled no more than two 12 ounce bottles of beer poured into the Super Dome as a comparison to the Gulf seems to drive the doomsayers nuts....

Typical hype and political hypocritsy with very little true science to back up the call to ban off shore oil drilling and to cripple the energy industry on which our economy depends...

Not to belittle the BP screw up....and they will pay billions for ruining the economy of the locals along the Gulf coast....but the "worst of the worst" has occurred...and the engineers found a cure and there is no major damage to the estuaries or ocean areas...Now, lets get back to drilling and producing oil to power our economy out of this "recession".

The only thing I will disagree with what you are saying Newton is that we do not and will not know the full effects for many years to come. So I fear teh worst of the worst is yet to come, also the marshes are in horrible shape and the migrators that use that area have not yet come down in force. The residuals is what I am worried about. And they are yet to be seen.

Talk to some of the guides in Alaska and ask them, they are still seeing effects from Valdez. Horrible how they seem to have gotten away with it.

    when in doubt, look below!

    Apples and oranges.

A lot of the processing of the oil (given time) is done by microbes. This may??? just turn out like the huge spill in the Persian Gulf (??) about 15 years ago.......8 years later, there were no signs of the spill. Scientists said that microbes were digesting oil basically 350 days/year.

Somewhere like Valdez has cold water most of the time and limited microbial activity.

That's just one way of looking at it though. Doesn't mean we're out of the woods on this one.
