Totally for youth days. Hunters are dwindling... I am in lower 40's and live in suburbia. Not too many of my friends hunt and the number of people not hunting is increasing.

Kids today are involved in so many after school sports or parents who don't hunt or don't know how to hunt.

I love taking my son hunting...

That is a false narrative, hunting license sales have been up for going on 20 years. It’s been a steady slow increase.

While this is true, if you look at the actual statistics, hunters as a % of the population is far lower than it was 20 years ago. Over the past 20 years, the US population has increased by 50 million. However, hunters only increased by 800 thousand. That is a HUGE drop in % of population!!!

    Year 1998 2018
    Population 275 million 325 million
Hunting License Sales 14.8 million 15.6 million

Not looking to have thread shut down or fight with people. Just giving my opinion.

Maryland has a deer problem and the DNR has tried to work with hunters to correct it. Offering extended seasons and insane limits. We didnt do our jobs, now the farmers are killing them at night and the guys that wanted antler restrictions because they want bigger bucks are up in arms! you know those guys ain’t messing up their hunting areas shooting does.

So, kids can have the whole season as youth season with a rifle with an a
Unarmed licensed adult, but they have to shoot 2 does.

Both well stated...let us get the future of our heart felt passion in the field, setting, moving, adjusting decoys. Have them see the fruits of labor and hear the talent of seasoned calling, ending in what should be a day to remember. Hopefully, passing this day on to the next and next generation. We all should get past " limits" and enjoy evert great toll

I wouldn't have held my kid back from shooting that buck. Chance of a lifetime, in a place and time the both of us would never be in again.

Part of good QDMA practices is maintaining a correct doe:buck ratio. So yes the guys wanting big deer are killing does, especially late in the year.

That isn’t what was said though. What was said was that hunters are dwindling, which they aren’t.

BTW that’s only half of a percent decrease. It dropped from 5.3% to 4.8%

You really do not want hunters as % of population to go up. This is not an unlimited resource.

    Scotty, always the sanctimonious *******.
