When I was 9 I started on a youth Rem 870 express. Great gun. After 3 years i traded it in for a new wingmaster. Can't go wrong with an 870.

I used a rem.1100 youth model (20ga) it says it will only shoot 2 3/4 but it will shoot a 3in.One of my buddies 8 year old has a 410 single shot, he gets to shoot criples, at his age he only needs one shot cause you never know where the second shot is going to go.:yes

I started out with a little 20 ga. single shot..and after about 5 hunts I said Im sick of only getting one shot off and switched to a 12 ga. pump...but you can get a New England Firearms 20 ga. for around 80 bucks or so...
