~ This weekend was Washington's designated youth hunting weekend- Kids only ! And what a great morning - Crisp fall air when we set out well before sunrise-- It's starting to feel like duck weather ! " Scoters are tough birds ! "-- he says to me a few birds into the shoot. From first light on Spence ran the ducks ragged and he tells me his shoulder and knuckle are a bit sore from all the shooting. Some greenheads got a standing salute and a few young surfs didn't make it back out of the dekes but he was especially proud of his first BIG whitewing drake-- a nice mature drake to start the season off.

Scoter stew on the menu tonight :tu Bring on the season !

Congrats! Sounds like you both had a good time. He'll learn to appreciate that sore shoulder. It doesn't happen everyday,as you well know.

Good on him for getting a new bird to check off the list. That's one that I still need to check off my own list.

    Later,
    Kev

    Congrats to both.

Beautiful birds, one day I'll make it out to the coast to bag some sea ducks.

    Dave,

Thats great you got out for the youth hunt. I ended up only being able to get my two yuts into the hunters ed class for this weekend. I was worried but 16hrs later and both PASSED:grvn:grvn. I was wondering on what your boy is shooting for scoters as far as shot size and guage?

    Thanks,

    Kevin

~ Thanks guys :tu It really was a good day out there. Youth weekends with my boys and nephews are some of my favorite days in the field.

~ Hey Maverick-- My boy shoots has shot a Benelli Nova "youth" 20ga. since he was 8. That gun was a little big for him then, but a perfect fit now. Today he started out w/ that gun and then onto Dad's M-2 20 ga semi-auto, which dramatically increased the shell totals-- Faststeel #4's. Bang - Bang- Bang :D
