Finally started chipping away at post season chores yesterday by washing the artificial Blind Grass I supplement my blind's natural cover with. Might sound odd, but my blind's not "the mud hole" for nothing, and everything within the dog's shaking range gets a coat of the black dirt sludge he...
Drown my ancient flip phone while duck banding Sunday (cold story) and looking for a simple, unlocked 5G capable android(?) type phone with good reception and volume. Not "gamer" just a Luddite geezer who needs a phone to talk to or text folks when I can't get out of it. Suggestions, please...
The response to "Flooded Corn" reminds me so much of that to "Field Trial" on the old gun dog boards I initially browsed when the net was new, that I thought I'd give it a shot at replacing that now canceled classic.
"Many of our ducks are afraid of hunters. Please help hide yourself."
Would finding that note in front of your spot in a commercial blind inform, amuse or insult you?
One of the things I do to narrow the overhead view black hole of my steel pit-type blind in the marsh is drape burlap (from the coffee bean sacks our farm-release gators are bagged in) over the top rails so it hangs a couple feet down into the blind and then camo it with rattle can Rustoleum...
Was starting back through this past season's log when the following potential thread topic came up:
"Curses: Only the lost jack that would have filled them out. Well, that, and the reminders that cell phones are conservation tools, in the PETA sense."
Wasn't long ago that someone referenced a...
WC mentioned "that gravelly sound in their voices" in the pitch thread, which brought to mind the common notion that hens with gravelly, two-pack-of-Marlboros-a-day voices are old gals.
That's something I'd long held to be so until specklebellies called it into question. Most (but not all)...
Want to try flocking to beat the morning sun's glare off the heavy dew on the painted surfaces of a small standing (left out) spread of FB goose decoys and wondering how much flocking to buy. Will be double-coating the entire decoys, but don't plan on doing more than a couple dozen total...
Opened the chamber on my 870 today and couldn't close it. While a first for mine, it's something I've seen happen with a few guest 870s over the years and knew dropping the trigger assembly should, and did, relieve the problem - at least for now. But I've yet to ID the hangup.
Anybody know...
Just typing that thread title had me gritting my teeth, because of the seriously stupid and far too often dangerous...er, "misdeeds" almost invariably associated with hearing it from one of my hunters. But the turn of the "hypothetical hunt" thread from doing things one's own way to safety and...
Walked out of a Cabella's breathable wader boot while pulling birds (from under a cannon net for banding) last evening and am reluctantly acknowledging the need for something more ankle fit for days when I'm actually trying to do more than stay warm and dry. (Ran stocking foots with cheap...
In the "Way back when..." I was still writing some, as well as guiding, I was sometimes mistaken for an expert and interviewed by other writers. Thus it came to pass that this thread's topic line was attributed to me in "late season tips" articles in both DU's magazine and a regional rag one...
Thought of that line the other morning and shot this clip of what's a common bit of hunting mark nature-faking for us this time of year:
Mind you, I don't claim that sort of mark exactly replicates having a mess of birds over the blocks and scattering when the guns go off, but it's worlds...
Been thinking about experimenting with Mojo's spinner timer and thought I'd ask for others' experience before making a potentially costly error. Don't mind losing the timer's expense if it doesn't turn out to be helpful, but don't wish throw money down the drain on something more apt to crap...
Stumbled onto a new-to-me youtube producer from Louisiana and took a few minutes to check out their premier episode, featuring Catahoula Lake hunting:
And found this circa: late '80s photo included in a historic photo montage of the lake's hunters at the video's 7:23 mark:
Fellow on the left...
Wanted to try an Alan Stanley Deceiver this past season, but my e- and voice-mails (as per instruction on his site) went unanswered, and I auditioned something else, instead.
Have recently learned that a friend just hit the same roadblocks, yet the site is still up, so I'm wondering if anyone...
Fishdog asked that I post what I thought when the vest arrived, and it has.
Very first impression was just how small and light the little Priority mail envelope was - couldn't be much of anything in there. But there was nicely constructed little vest within. Well, except for the presumed...
