Since Maryland has a 1 Goose, 30 day season this year due to a reduction in the AP population, I am going to do some deer hunting for the first time in 14 years. Looking to buy a 20 guage slug shotgun. Any suggestions? Just need something I can sight in and will use 5-10 times a year.

H & R are pretty cheap and accurate. Single shot break action. Triggers are hit or miss.

Savage makes a bolt action that is lights out. I think it's a 220 model.

I have the H&R, good gun, heavy, so no kick. Haven’t shot the Savage, but always seem to hear great reports.

Ive got the H&R ultra slug hunter in 12 gauge. It shoots 1.5" to 2" groups at 100 yards with lightfield commander and hammerhead hand loads. It would do close to that with hornady sst slugs. I also used to wildcat a little bit because the barrel was a 10 gauge blank and the receiver was built the same as the handi rifles so they could be pushed a little bit and still be safe. I wont get into load specifics but we were pushing 546gr slugs a good ways past 1800 fps. The accuracy went to crap and the recoil was horrendous but it sure was a head turner at the range. We werent pushing the gun near as far as some other guys. Was a ton of fun. Then they opened up the area I deer hunt to centerfire so I shelved that project. I still bring it out to the range for fun every now and then. It is easier now to convince me you dont need near 416 rigby muzzle energy levels to hunt whitetail.

Did I hear someone say Savage?
I was going to say get a rifled slug barrel for a shotgun you already own. They are available for 870s, Mossbergs, etc. Some have sights and some have cantilevered scope mounts.
