First specks ever for me and my cousin. Got lucky hit them with the Canada call and took them over a spread of duck decoys...with the robos still running. I couldn’t believe it!!
Was poking around the South end of the Golden Triangle before the fog and saw more canada's and snows than ducks. I assume they are around but might be moving after dark.
Where we were hunting, the ducks flew a little during the fog but the main waves didn't fly until around 4
Duck kill report, Dec 27- Jan 5. Location, North Zone, 50 miles south of Memphis,, Mo. A great big fat ZERO!!! A DUD to the duck season end. Tough to shoot em when u dont see em. On the flip side, we are banging some honkers since the 20th.
Strange finish. We had the biggest flocks of the year breaking down Sunday and Monday. The monster mobs wouldn’t quite finish and we really didn’t want to shoot into those groups anyhow. Was a super cool way to finish with big Mallard groups and hens barking loudly as I worked on them. We shot plenty including some beautiful Drakes and a Drake Woodie.......what the???? Wish I had taken some video now but it is stored away and in my memory babk so all is good! They definitely wanted our water hole in the ice! Gave them the last day off as we picked up the spread and various other things to close down duck for the year. Maybe get after some Honks now! Hooe everyone here has a great/healthy and prosperous 2021!!!!
Last morning of the season.......between Elsberry and Foley NADA Afternoon, headed out with the big lens and camera and went up to Anada and worked back to the cabin.....zilch but I did get some nice raptor shots Today headed out, ran into a fella that was running his trap line (2 beavers around 15 lbs each and a bigger one around 25 lbs)....asked if he had seen any ducks......he asked what are those? With a big grin...said he hadn’t seen a duck in over a week His opinion was the late start hurt the North Zone this year...lots of early ducks moved through pointed the truck north and ran up to Clarksville for eagles....not cold enough More eagles were along HWY 79’s trees than Clarksville Saw geese and ducks at Cannon NWR...photos so so Headed on to BK....HEARD but did not see snows...sounded like they were on the ground Also ran into some upland boys with their bird dogs...they hadn’t seen anything...not even a rabbit LOL Will go back out after lunch but pickings are slim
Every specklebelly in North America is at Cannon refuge They began flying at 3:45 thru sundown Most went NW About a 1/3 went West smoke if you have them That is all
