MDC seem to be the best cockleburr farmers I have ever seen, which surprises me since moist soil management calls for major soil disturbance every 3 years or so.

You would think they would try to eliminate cockleburrs since it pulls nutrients from any sedges, duck tater etc that understories beneath cockleburrs.

Add that cockleburrs eventually will be toxic to a duck’s liver as well.

I know I don’t miss them at our place but it is a job to keep them out.

Several chemicals work great, even on ALS resistant burs. Unfortunately those same chems, torch smartweed as well. Smartweed along with coffee weed can choke out burs, but burs germinate earlier. When they first appear spray or disk but you won’t be able to repeat cause your desirables will be emerging. I think it was suggested that a but can be viable under the soil for 30 years.

Wu, you better plan on hunting in the morning and possibly staying till at least 10 or 11:00. That wind is gonna switch from SW to NW, with high pressure and great wind. I’m just saying.

The turkey is taking one for Team Fowl. A lot of ducks going to live another day because of that turkey.

887AE1EB-E32B-4AB8-8F1F-092D3E159802.jpeg Well, my hopes always seem to be higher than reality. Not the prettiest strap but with no wind, unlike the prediction, I’ll take it. Wind didn’t start till 10:00. Now to the in-laws for whole picked wood ducks, stuffed with pork sausage, in a casserole dish of long grain rice. Two back straps fried from a spike buck, should round out the main courses.
