Thanks for sharing, I watched one of your other vids before. Any reason why you pattern at 40?

I normally pattern all my loads at the max effective range of the load itself or 40yds if it's effective beyond 40.

If I was patterning 4, 5 or 6 steel then I'd be in the 35, 30, 25yd range.

Of course that's for ducks. If I'm patterning a dove, quail load I'd probably stay at 40. If my intention was clay birds at the skeet range then I'd probably focus on 25yds.

30 is just as valid of a patterning distance as 40. As long as you know your distance and choke. Actually patterning at your most common target distance is good. Might even be better. 40 is so everyone can compare numbers you just need to know yours

IMO, which is just an opinion, patterning at your EFFECTIVE shooting distance is even better. No sense patterning at 40 yards if you can't hit them beyond 30 (which, statistically speaking, most hunters can't)

On the other hand....

This is a good reason to ALSO pattern at 40.
