Great ruling. Problem is now the railroad lands are being sold off creating public land to be locked up by new private owners.
Box Elder County in Northern Utah had a bunch of greedy private landowners fail on their mission. They wanted to close a lot of public roads in Western Boxelder county. Because people dont need to be out here. One rancher blamed random target shooters for shooting 3 high end breeding bull( I say someone had a grudge)Half the state of Wyoming just opened up ?
Always interesting when a court case not only fails, but the backlash felt by the plaintiffs is extreme.
Right there by Lucin and Grouse Creek?Box Elder County in Northern Utah had a bunch of greedy private landowners fail on their mission. The Forest Service, BLM National Grasslands the county, US AirForce Blue Ribbion coalition And created the Vehicle Users map. Ranches had miles and miles of public roadways and trails blocked and posted.

States are figuring out,,, Rails to Trails is a great option.Great ruling. Problem is now the railroad lands are being sold off creating public land to be locked up by new private owners.
I like that country around the Pilots, Grouse Creek, and the Raft Rivers. My one and only Utah deer to date is from the Raft Rivers.Started at Promontory then Park Valley ranchers got involved blocking a couple of public roads that lead up to the forest Some other ranchers tried to jump on the bandwagon along the Pilots, (Lucin), and Kelton that died quickly,, Them jumping in wanting to close public roads was the driving sources behind the success of the Vehicle Access map. Basically, big landowners shot themselves in the foot.
.
Years before the Grouse Creek had CWMU s it was always easy permissions for us out there. I had a student, whose nickname was Grouse Creek ( family ranched and had the store)
My wife is still friends with another family ( at one time owned the reservoir) and the alfalfa field
Youngs (the largest family land owners in Utah, at $40.00 an acres; 2003 prices) own most of that desert Checkerboard 25 years ago Youngs didn't care what people did out there, as long as they weren't dumping trash, production was so poor sheep were only put on the land every other year, and much is open travel,, drive where every you want![]()
Some huge elk come out of the Pilots and Grouse Creek CWMU.
My favorite camping with the Scouts, was Locomotive Springs
My favorite family camping the Pilots and Raft River Range,, Just incredible some monster deer and elk. The Pilots you could see the sunrise forever, One of the most secluded places in the lower US
