No need to have them picked when you can stand on their wings and pull their feet and you have a skinless breast attached to the wings.
Can clean a limit of them in about 10 minutes.

kinda funny, i remember as a kid enjoying when my dad and uncle would let us pop a few once in a while. Usually it was during the november doldrums.. but shooting at a few coots once in a while made things interesting.

    That’s upside down!:l

Stand on the feet, pull the wings and you’re holding the breast instead of the guts.

Tastes way better than most ducks. My kids shoot them (even my adult son) when things are slow. I make them clean and eat them.

The last year of lead a bunch of us went to GL to burn up our shells on some unsuspecting mudhens. We knew the pond and mapped out a strategy like we were planning a great battle. I forget the total but it was stupid. Brought them to my buddies and we stepped on them and pulled them apart exposing the green meat. Off they went into a giant pot with all kinds of garbage mixed in. Completely inedible. The old guy that gave us the recipe took the disaster in that pot and was thrilled to get it all cooked. He probably died an early death.

Years ago my son and a buddy of his asked if they could pop a couple. I said fine but you will eat them. They BBQ’d them when we got home. They ate 3. Dog got a couple. He never asked to shoot coots again

I’m sure if prepared right they’d be ok. I’m in no hurry to find that recipe

They banded 300 a few year ago at Ruby Lake NWR. Let me tell ya, those little bastages are mean! They'll wrap them green feet up above their head and rake you with their claws. They'll bite the crap outta ya too.

So, basically you’re saying they have large talons.
