Driving around town this morning and saw a breeding pair of Black bellied whistling ducks and their brood swimming in a run-off pond next to the highway in St Charles. I've never seen one of these before. Any one else ever see these in Missouri?
Really pretty birds. Are they any good for eating?

Went from just seeing a few, to this year there’s soiree’s of them on nearly every wooded pond.

I kinda hope they stick around for the season. They’re supposed to be good eating.

Prime rib with duck fat flavoring. No other duck tastes that good.

Think you’re allowed a, “one time ground check”, on any and all new species prior to or after any official or nonofficial season.

I’m in southeast Louisiana and they head south around October and the powers that be don’t let us shoot em during September teal season. So you may never get to legally shoot one unless you head to the gulf coast for duck season.

The past few years that I’ve paid attention, they show up in late March and leave early October. I’m wishing they’d hang around here, something to shoot besides hoodies and woodies.

Jeez, you have a notification set up for black belly? I'm from MO, what's your reason to troll the state forums? They are tasty.
