A Little OT - Skeet (or Trap Maybe?)

I shoot sporting clays and 5-stand when I can. BUT, I'm 'inconsistent' enough that skeet would be as beneficial as clays right now and they tend to be a little cheaper.
I would love to patronize or join a skeet club where I could go after work. (I'm usually off at 2:30) or on days off (I usually work both days on weekends.). I've looked on the VA Skeet Association web page; the information is a little "outdated". I'm looking at Conservation Park.... There's another one really close to me that's closed to new members.... I'm in Glen Allen. Anybody know of anything?

Fredericksburg is probably the closest to you that's worth joining. I shot a lot of register targets there over the years. Plenty more ranges north of that if you want more. I never liked the Richmond range but they have one too.

That could be. It was about a year to get in 20 years ago. There use to be a private range in FarmVille. That's probably too far to drive.

Centreville Izaak Walton was a nice, small range and they put on several super feeds each year. Probably too far. Forget about the Fairfax R&G Club. I was an officer in that club for years and they are pretty much all lawyers and congressmen member now. Turned into a real A-Hole hangout. And very pricey. I know things have changed in 20 years but ask me about one. I'll give you my opinion. I've shot at most in VA and MD.

Fort Lee used to have skeet and trap only. It was very inexpensive and civilians could use it. I have shot there in a few years, though, it would be first choice if I lived up that way.

Here in NC and I’m sure is the same in Va, most all gun clubs will have a pretty long waiting list. Our club here in southeastern NC has 400 members ….and the waiting list is now projected out 4 years! Like good public hunting land, it’s tougher to find a place to go every year. The suggestion to look for military bases that have skeet and trap fields is a good one. A bunch of us (civilians) use to make the hour drive to Jacksonville (Camp Lejuene) to shoot. Never an issue and cost were extremely reasonable.

Yes. I have looked at them. They have trimmed their hours to Fri. and Sat. 10-4. I almost always am at work then. Otherwise, I'd be there every Saturday morning!
You have to register your guns in person, so they can take a photo id.... Other than that, it's a good deal. They have registered skeet and trap shoots too.
