I can’t believe the bs and misinformation here. First off nobody sounds like me. Because no two spec callers sound the same. I’m qualified to tell you this because for the last 15 years I’ve been a contestant or a judge of spec calling at the state level. And I hunt specks for a living. I’ve taught lots of young guys to call. A few of them had lots of talent and became better than me. Carson Leber for example. Things that took me months to master he could learn in 3 minutes. As for just picking out juvenile birds? What a crock!! Nobody who’s hunted specs very much and isn’t stupid would EVER say that. Shoot the ones you get in range and shoot your lane. That’s my advice.

While the sound of two and three note yodels and bent notes strung together with scratch sounds melodic and can reach out to flocks of Specks, my favorite call is the Ukka-Uk.
When Specks are fairly close and I can get a back and forth UKKA-UK conversation going on it is usually Specks going to commit and circle down.
Nathan taught me that note on his excellent calling instructional CD. I spent a lot of time rewinding and playing it to get the UKKA-UK down as it is not a smooth natural vocalization for a person. Spend some time learning it and if your camo is good and there are not white pie faces looking up, you are going to kill more specks.
Phineas J. Whoopie you`re the greatest! :l

Since I usually hunt with only one other hunter, it is actually not that hard at all as I said to try to pick out juvies to harvest. Not always possible but worth it for table fare if that is a priority and not just total numbers killed the quickest. Some folks might even be surprised at how many Duck hunters try to select greenheads out of flocks of Mallards.

I've turned Specs but never finished them.

This was 1st year owning a Spec call. It's hard when your hunting Public land and guy's are shooting at them at 80-100 yards.

My only real Spec hunting was with Bronson and it was a very enjoyable hunt.

If I lived farther north I could see really getting into Spec Hunting .

You guy's seem to forget once your a senior member on here ... then your an expert on everything.
