I just got back from a little walk. I took my four Chessie girls for a stroll down the low maintenance gravel that runs east past our house. Middle of the day, dappled clouds, stout wind keeping mosquitoes at bay.
Both sides of the road are soybeans this year, but there's a few low spots where cornstalks still stand and water lays. These spots are not very big, but they're loaded with birds.
All the usual suspects were there; mallards, gadwall's, blue winged teal, a few pintails, some redheads, a couple honkers, and a few mudhens.
It was a great sight during this hot weather, and now I got an itchy trigger finger. :grvn

    snap any pictures?
It must be amazing to live in a place like that, where you can go see the local breeding ducks hanging out.

I moved here from Ohio, and it's pretty weird to see divers in summer. There's also a lot of ruddy ducks around right now.
