Hope those Illinois boys come back this year, hate to see the Baltzell go belly up. Great Bend landmark. Dry dirt watching is well worth the drive boys on a cold November day. Don't forget to log in to the KS app.

I spend hours upon hours every day during waterfowl season reading reports, viewing on-demand satellite imagery, driving, scouting, talking, etc. … and I can assure anyone reading this that Barton Co. KS might as well have been the Sahara last year—(there were fowl to be had around, to be sure, but nothing like normal because) there was absolutely no water.

I was hauling wheat, milo, and corn from September until the end of November last year. Drove all over Barton and four adjoining counties during that gig. I found maybe three ponds that still had some water....and not one of them had a duck on it. Even the pond on the dove property I hunt on, which usually has a few teal on it, was duckless even though it had some water.

I get around some, and during the last season I saw one pond, near Hays, that had about 30 BW teal on it. Those were the only ducks I saw until January, and then that was one mallard hen.

There is a difference between going on a duck hunt and shooting (or even seeing) a duck. I think we all understand that.

Anyone who says they hunted waterfowl in Barton County during the 2022-23 season is simply playing with words. You'll notice that he didn't say he shot any waterfowl, or even saw any.

So you come to barton county, hire an outfitter, get a motel room and he says we have to meet at 2am, they have a spot to kill ducks 2 hours away. Priceless
