Been a long time since I’ve visited here. I don’t see it mentioned often but one thing that seems evident, these same road warriors, when restricted in one area or one type of property, will shift their pressure to other areas, states, lands, etc. The cumulative effect, in terms of ramifications, will be the same amount of pressure on the birds from a flyway perspective. As I’ve said and has been said by others, excessive pressure is a national, even continental issue at this point. I hunted a particular public area in Kansas last year on the opener and the ducks were already nocturnal. The moon had some to do with it, but not all, we could clearly tell, they knew the game. That is a result of pressure up the flyway. All I’m saying is, these travelin cats are gonna hunt somewhere and they’re gonna hunt in Kansas with guides, on private, and they’re going to purchase more land to lock up opportunity(all of which is already a problem), and they’re going to shift to other adjacent states and pound away there too, all of which is going to have an effect on the resource and our hunting opportunity, both as Kansas residents and non-residents alike.

I understand it would be too big of a can of worms to carve out, but I maintain this proposal seems unfortunately punitive against residents of SW MO and NE OK.

Neosho and Marais Des Cynges are two of the best areas in Kansas, and both are very close to the state line—Marais is literally on the border of Kansas and Missouri. Would suck to live 10 minutes from Marais, or 45 from Neosho, and not be able to hunt it as convenient because of the state name on your drivers license.

Golden: They’re a different “breed” because they drove a long way and spent a bunch of money to hunt. Took vacation time too. It would be no different for you if you were in their shoes.

I spend a lot of time fishing in Canada. We see the Kansas ”breed” come up and put every fish they can on the bumper whether they want them or not. Fish sun-up to sundown. Don’t quit for lunch. Spend no money in Canada. Just kill fish. Some call them goobers like you do here.
Time to come clean Old Critter. What’s your skin in this game? What do you care? You preached from your pulpit far and wide, we’ve all heard it. You’re spot on about acquiring your own land. It’s the best choice clearly.

As a private duck hole owner in MO what do you care what KS does? Either you are dipping over the border when your MO hole is empty or you’re profiting over KS’ lax NR restrictions. Which is it?

BTW, I knocked on doors in the golden triangle area and was granted access. Your post 5-10 pages back is actually not accurate.

Anxiously awaiting your reply….

Nowhere close to Kansas and never hunted in the state. Calm down, my friend.

Objective and unbiased opinion here.
Fair enough and you have been mostly unbiased but I sense you don’t care for the new proposals and seem to be leaning that way.

My opinion, we don’t owe the MO/OK residents anything just because they live 19 minutes from Marais or Bayou Neosho. MO doesn’t care I’m closer to their duck parks than the two you mentioned in the state I live in. I have to poor line it in MO to hunt a duck park, and I’m good with it. Their state their rules. I adjusted last year and shot ducks in MO duck parks, and contrary to what Old Critter claims, there is permission to be had over there by knocking on doors.

What about all the guys who live in missouri but work in Kansas….
Or vice versa? MDC doesn’t let NRs put in for the draws on MO duck parks. Gotta poor line it. Guess they’re limiting NRs too huh?

If you sense any hesitancy, it’s simply that no solution is perfect.

But sometimes “done and implemented” is better than “perfect, in theory”.

Im pizzed cause the birds get pounded into being nocturnal almost the second they arrive anymore. The NR I ran into last year were desperate for a Kansas experience as the one they were having was not what they expected. Yeah you can still get lucky on a flight day or the day after, but the rest of the season pretty well sucks. I keep yearly logs and while days hunted has remained constant, birds seen and taken are way down. If they are out hunting me good for them, but from what I saw they are out there staring at the same empty skies while the shellshocked birds sit tight.

If you really think hunting now sucks in Kansas because of the non-residents you either aren't trying hard enough, aren't willing to travel throughout the state enough or you just don't know what your doing. I hunt all over the state and the best years of my life have been from 2017-2022. (All Public) And i'm not the only one, all my friends consistently kill ducks in this state. (And i'm a lifetime resident in this state)
