    I’ve been looking at pics of them, and this is just about exactly what I saw.

    sorry to be so anticlimactic over a common animal, but we don’t have these things in the Deep South.

    I'm saying groundhog. I never saw one in my area until just a few years ago. Since then, I've seen several while I'm out hunting. I even saw one cross the road 1/4 mile from my house a couple of weeks ago. Evidently, it has a den in a thicket in the neighbors yard.
