but now with the new go Kansas outdoors app, they know how many times we poop in the parking lot.
Not true. Nobody is using the new checkin system. It only works half the time. Lots of times, it will just freeze up or not finalize. It took me several attempts to check out from home one night. Talked to an elderly pheasant hunter at a WMA and he said kdwp can write him a ticket. It's a disaster.

How accurate are those numbers my guess not very accurate at all. They rely on what hunters tell them and most want others to think the are Gods gift to duck killing. Most outdoorsman kinda have a tendancy to over tell the détails to impress their peers and over exzaggerate the real numbers to make themselves look like a great white hunter
Feel free to show alternative data and methodology…..until then that is the data used

Having worked with a self reporting system and having to test for “poor memory bias “ LOL….There are methods to quantify ’error’. Multiple data surveys sent and answer comparison etc

Back when I hunted public, I always put ZERO ducks regardless…easy number to remember no matter how many surveys they sent…….just sayin

Without saying who's right and who's wrong (I'm just an outside observer), these are very well followed podcasters who hunt a crapload.

It's all relative.

One man's pressure is another's wide open marsh.

I got to see that first hand this year.

I remember meeting some TX guys at a launch a few years ago. They asked me why everyone is setting up on top of each other. Said that don't fly in TX. I told him to look at the license plates ....there's your answer.

That’s a heavy bushel of corn Chang. Not that it matters much, but a bushel of corn is 56 pounds

This is my experience. 50% failure rate consistently for those who attempt to use it. Huge sector that aren’t using it to include elderly, NRs, and a growing faction of residents who are weary of KDWPs song and dance and refuse to out of spite.

They don’t write for wake violations and they won’t write for this. If they do, go see your county attorney…..

THE APP IS TRASH!

It depends on so many variables but the pressure and NR activity has quantifiably risen year over year per KDWP data over the last 10 years.

I never expect to be alone on public land, but having hunting parties every 100 yards just makes it into a frustrating situation. I (mostly) quit hunting the WMAs a few years ago because I found that even on weekdays I was no longer enjoying it even if I shot a couple ducks due to people hammering hail calls constantly. I’m hunting private in Missouri now more, because the public hunting experience has deteriorated enough here that I no longer enjoy being afield.

Hopefully that makes sense. It’s just sad to us, seeing something we loved for so long being used and abused. I want NR to have access here; I like hunting other states, but we don’t have enough public duck ground to support the volume of hunters here in 2023. It’s not working anymore. It is not a stretch to say that a nonresident enters a lottery (just like they do with deer and many other species) and can come every other year, or every 3rd year, and their permit allows another hunter to join them. I would not find that unreasonable in other states. Target a 50% reduction in 2022 NR numbers.

It’s pretty simple, and everyone has a better experience.
You say have a lottery for NR. Well what if Missouri went to a lottery for permits. I guess that would effect your hunting private ground over there. Be careful what you wish for

Then would it be reasonable to assume that the kill numbers days afield etc are under reported due to the trash app?

... fund acquisition of additional lands…….
This has been suggested time and time again.
Just where are these additional lands the KDWP is supposed to acquire? Who is going to sell their 40 acres of decent wetlands to the State when they can make $5000 a year leasing it to some outfitter? ...these 40 acres that will comfortably hold a maximum of 3 or 4 parties of hunters?
The NR hunters from Louisiana alone would fill up every additional plot of ground the state could possibly buy for the next 10 years.
Do you think Kansas is full of landowners just begging for someone to buy their duck property??? Ha! There are damn few acres of privately-held wetlands in this state, and 99% of them are in the SE quadrant of the state.
